A DIFFERENT APPROACH
TO THE SAFARI LODGE CONCEPT

When we shared our hopes and dreams with regards to our lodge plans with other lodge owners, they often responded with "we'll show you how it's done!"

We're sure they meant well, and their input was appreciated, but we found out that their advice invariably led us to the same two interior decorators in Hoedspruit town. These decorators have their own shop, and obviously they love to sell! If you'd follow their advice then every wall should have at least one decoration, and a bed must have sufficient "throw pillows" on it, as to no longer be able to sit on it.

"Surely", we thought, "there must be something better". We didn't want our lodge to look like the thirteenth lodge in a dozen. We didn't want our walls full of silly things that are just there to catch dust. And we sure as hell didn't want any pillows which only purpose was to be thrown into a corner.

We didn't want heavy leopard-print curtains or African "art" made in China. We wanted something light, fresh, and uncluttered. We wanted something "zen". We wanted an interior that doesn't draw too much attention. The focus should be the bush, outside.

And so we opted for a rather Scandinavian interior, but of course with the well-balanced use of African materials here and there, such as headboards made of wood, and warthog tusks as towel hangers. Our "art" on the wall is limited to one huge image of wildlife per room (photographed by yours truly). And we chose plains game, no images of "the big 5" like everyone else does.

We like the result. And we hope you do too!

DETAILS!

The image banner on top of this page should already give you a good idea what our lodge has to offer, and what we're about. But there's some details that we'd like to point out.

"Details" may not be the right word, as some of the things we'll mention can make a huge difference for your safari experience.

Let's start with one important aspect; hygiene. We are one of the few lodges that use mattress- as well as pillow protectors. These are items you normally only see in the top-end lodges. Every three months our lodge also gets an insect-treatment with a hospital-grade insecticide. And we don't use any rugs. In our hot environment they add little to your comfort level. You'll enjoy the "barefoot luxury" of our screed floors much more.

And then there's the kitchen in your cottage; it's far from the "kitchenettes" most competitors provide, like in Kruger park where half the stuff is missing and the other half is dirty. Our kitchen is more or less like the kitchen you have at home, with appliances such as a 4-burner electric hob, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. It's all super clean on arrival, and if you stay longer than 4 nights we come clean it again. No need to clean your braai grid; we'll replace your used grid with a clean one. Just ask!

Also; no need to buy table cloths, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, liquid soap, shower gel, etc. In fact; no need to buy ANYTHING except food. All utensils are there, including all braai tools, an ice bucket, wine- and champagne glasses, etc. We even provide a cooler box, ice bricks and metal cups for your day trips to Kruger or the Panorama Route.

Note that every cottage also comes with salt, pepper, mineral water, and a coffee station with tea, milk, sugar, coffee and hot chocolate.
